Time is on Your Side

Do you remember the song, "Time is on my side?"  When it comes to caring for diabetes, does it feel like time is on your side, or the enemy?

It may not always feel like it, but we make choices about how we spend our time.  Most of us spend our time on things that are important to us.  Family, work, friends, religious activities, hobbies are often priorities because they are important and add meaning to our lives.

One way think about how you spend your time is to make a list of the top ten things in your life that are priorities.  Is diabetes on your list?  Now make a new list of how you would like your life to be.  Do you want caring for your diabetes to be more or less of a priority for you?

If you want to spend less time on your diabetes, you can learn to work smarter.  If you want diabetes to be more of a priority, ask what needs to change for you to spend the time and effort you want.  Do you need to become more organized or more routine?  Do you need to say no more often or give up some things that you do now?  Do you need to ask for help from others?  Is there one thing you can do this week that will help you to get started?  Are you willing to one thing this week to change the way you spend your time? Time doesn't have to be your enemy - take a step this week to put time on your side.
